Introduction and Aims Efforts to manage nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are limited by the absence
of accurate noninvasive biomarkers. The I148 M variant in PNPLA3 is a major determinant of the development and progression of NAFLD associated with
a distinct disease pathophysiology. Aim of the study was to identify novel candidate
NAFLD biomarkers by examining the hepatic transcripts associated with severe NAFLD
in obese individuals in patients stratified by the presence of the PNPLA3 I148 M variant.
